The late Luke Bombardir took today’s featured photo at the old Civic Arena in April of 1970, capturing then national champion Powell River Regals posing with three trophies won that spring, including [from left] the Hardy Cup (Canadian championship), Edmonton Journal Trophy (Western Canadian championship) and Coy Cup (British Columbia championship). Players on the roster of the 2023/2024 Regals are pursuing another Coy Cup, a sixth for the hockey club, at Hap Parker Arena this week. Regals play tonight (March 27) at 7:30 pm. Are you going?

In 1991, legendary hockey coach Scotty Bowman, a 13-time Stanley Cup winner as a player, coach and executive, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
In 1995, Tom Hanks won his second best actor Oscar in a row, this time for his performance in the movie Forrest Gump, which also won the Academy Award for best picture. Hanks won in the acting catergory for Philadelphia in 1994.
In 1998, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra, the first male impotence drug.
