With broken hearts, we announce that Douglas Allan Paton, 74, of Gillies Bay, Texada Island, passed away suddenly on March 5th after a very short but valiantly fought battle with cancer. Doug was born on January 9th, 1949, to Elmer "Pat" and Norine Paton in Powell River, BC.

In 1969, Doug married the love of his life Huguette Plante in Lyndon, Washington, USA. Doug and Huguette welcomed his two Daddy’s girls, Laurie Anne (Tim) and Wendy (Donny). In 2005 the apple of his eye joined the family with the birth of his pride and joy, Cass.

In 1977, Doug joined the Gillies Bay Volunteer Fire Department, becoming chief shortly thereafter. He retired as chief in 1996 and stayed on as part of the fire crew. In 2013, he went back to his role as chief for another five years.

After his retirement as a shift boss at Blubber Bay Quarry, he dove into the Texada Historical Society and Museum, taking the role of archivist in March 2006.

Doug was predeceased by his mother, father and brother Gary. He is survived by his other half, Huguette; his girls, Laurie Anne (Tim) and Wendy (Donny); and the light of his life, Cass. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, many brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

No services will be held by request. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.
