Joeseph Philip Kane

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph Philip Kane of Powell River on July 30, 2022, at the age of 61.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years Heather, his sister Maureen, Roger, Anna and Emma Hendershot, brother Thomas, Heather’s family, Frank, Nicole, Casandra, Bonnie, Phil, Bryce, Kyla, Rod, Trish, Carol, Roy, Crystal and Christopher Ryan, as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Annie Patricia.

Joe was born and lived most of his life in Townsite in Powell River. He travelled to Scotland and Ireland with his family in his youth where he loved to spend time with his many relatives.

Joe went to Henderson Elementary School, Brooks Junior Secondary School and Max Cameron High School, and worked as a papermaker at MacMillan Bloedel.

He met Heather in 1990 and was married on November 8, 1992. “We spent our time exploring the many trails in Powell River with the dog and finding a viewpoint to sit and chat. In the early days we spent many happy hours going for dinners in various restaurants.”

Joe was very social and loved to stop and visit friends or have them over to listen to music and have drinks. Joe retired from the mill in 1994 and he did various handyman jobs doing yard work, construction, drywall and roofing. He was a big, strong man and he loved helping others if they were moving, doing construction or any other project.

Joe suffered from lung cancer and died suddenly at home with his wife by his side.

A service will be held at Evangel Church at 5139 Manson Avenue, Powell River, at 1 pm on Saturday, September 10.

The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff at Vancouver General Hospital, the Jean Barber Lodge, qathet General Hospital, Dr. Andreae and emergency personnel for their care and compassion.
