In memoriam: Lorraine Stokes

February 6, 1945 - April 28, 2022
Lorraine Stokes

Lorraine “Babe” Stokes, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in Powell River, April 28, 2022, age 77.

Babe was born in Calgary, February 6, 1945, to Jim and Dorothy (Roux) Venus, who settled in Westview in 1949. In her teens, Babe thrived in a rural, often communal life, marrying Harold Lennox and raising two sons while gardening, fishing, singing, and working for the Royal Bank.

Life with second husband, Terry Stokes, included travelling, diving, curling and golf. After serving as president of the Powell River Curling Club and Myrtle Point Golf Club, she donated her time to the Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary Economy Shop.

Babe was as sharp as a tack, and lightning quick with a good, “Shut the hell up!” for her closest friends and family, while

offering fresh-baked pie and cookies.

She is survived by her husband Terry, sons Jason (Joyce) and Jordan (Maria), stepchildren Rob (Fay), Kim (Arthur) and Tobin (Judith), ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and sisters Marie (Rob) Wood and Carol (Don) Skorey.

Our family is grateful to Dr. Uhlmann and the ICU nurses for all the care they provided. A celebration of life is to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to “Breathe” (lung.ca).
