In memoriam: Margaret Nidle

January 9, 1930 - May 18, 2022
Margaret Nidle

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Marg Nidle. Marg passed away peacefully in her sleep at Evergreen Extended Care Unit at the age of 92.

Marg was born in Prenzlau, Germany, to Raphael Wingerter and Helen Wingerter (Thiessen), who were on their way from Russia to Canada when she was born. Marg lived in Ninga, Manitoba, Coaldale, Alberta, and Westbank and Kamloops, BC, before moving to Powell River in 1956.

Marg was predeceased by her parents and brothers Harold, Victor and Danny (Joan). She is survived by her siblings Irene Morrison, Edward Wingerter (Reggie) and Albert Wingerter (Faye), children Bruce Nidle (Mari-Lou) and Debbie Shaw (Garry), grandchildren Christopher Shaw (Therese), Emily Shaw (Brad) and Kiera Moore Nidle (Jordan), and great-grandchild Astrid Shaw.

Marg graduated as a registered nurse from Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops in 1954 and worked at Powell River General Hospital from 1956 until she retired in 1990. She spent her retirement years travelling the world with her good friends and travelling North America with her partner Eddie. She was also a long-term member of the Powell River Chorus, a figure skater, a Kathaumixw hostess, a hiker, a skier, a piano teacher, a church member and MCC Thrift Shop volunteer. But her most cherished role was that of grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marg loved living in Powell River and taking part in community events, attending plays and musical productions at Evergreen Theater, walking the trails, going to Gibsons Beach and spending time at home with family and friends. In her final years she often talked about the fact that she had a great life here in Powell River.

“Goodbye mom, grandma and great grandma…we all love you so much and will miss you greatly!”

The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Care Unit. Their kindness, respect and professionalism made mom’s last days, weeks and months very comfortable.

A celebration of Marg’s life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 25, at Powell River Reformed Church, 4372 Padgett Road.
