A second performance of a live jazz series starts at 2 pm on Saturday, November 22, with Anela and The Experimenters featuring Anela Kahiamoe.
For the Saturday performance in the Rainbow Room at Rodmay Heritage Hotel, Kahaimoe has selected a broad range of popular jazz standards, as well as a selection of blues, country and originals. Kahiamoe has been a professional musician and entertainer his entire life.
“Expect an engaging performance with beautiful vocals and fantastic skills on guitar, ukulele and Hawaiian slack guitar,” said hotel manager Joan Campbell.
Of Hawaiian descent, Kahiamoe was a veteran musician in the Honolulu music scene, prior to relocating to the Comox Valley.
The band has six musicians and includes Evan Ehgoetz of Powell River on steel pedal guitar who masterfully blends that instrument’s sound into jazz favourites. Ehgoetz has shared the stage with the likes of Conway Twitty, Bill Anderson and Allan Jackson and has been nominated four times for a Canadian Country Music Award.
Walter Martella on trumpet joins the band for this performance. With world-class performance credentials on trumpet, piano and choral conducting, Martella has recorded with some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, including Don Thompson.
“The band is absolutely thrilled to work with Walter, who is standing in for musician Rachel Fuller,” Campbell said.
Rounding out the band is Grahame Edwards on stand-up bass, Ralph Barrat on keyboard and Rob Peterson on drums.
Special guest vocalist Clancy Sindlinger has been invited to once again, be a part of the series.
“Her vocal talent and stage presence is way beyond her youthful age of 16 years and a very bright musical future awaits,” added Campbell.
The jazz series is supported by the Rodmay and Underwriters Insurance Agencies of Powell River.
All tickets are $17 and can be purchased in advance at Rockit Music and Rodmay Heritage Liquor Store.
