Kicking the Clutter: What is personal development?

How to find who you are and become the best of yourself

Many people define personal development as constant learning and creating. I believe personal development is finding who you are and becoming the best of yourself. It should be made a priority in your life.

Get to know yourself

We might struggle to become our authentic selves because of different expectations from our families and friends. Often, we ignore our need to become authentic because we lack confidence, strength or motivation. It takes guts to go against the crowd.

Seek and you shall find

Become excited about your life and the possibilities offered to you. Personal development is about increasing our awareness and finding our life purpose. Also, reaching out to help others less fortunate can help you to grow personally and professionally.

Finding people who are into learning, creating and helping others is the way to increase your confidence and self-worth. Check Powell River Public Library for courses, lectures and a huge selection of books and videos on every possible subject.

Reinvent yourself

This simply means identifying habits, beliefs or activities that no longer work for you and changing them for better choices. It can involve external characteristics such as career, hobbies, appearance and relationships. Focus on internal reinvention, how you think, relate to others and conduct yourself.

Grow and create every day

Never in the history of mankind have we had so many opportunities to learn and grow. Most of the information is free; you just have to invest your time.

There are so many videos on cooking, gardening, organizing, writing a book or finding love. Are there any obstacles preventing you from moving forward?

As author Anthony Robbins said: “Progress is happiness.”

I agree with this one. When I changed my life and became the person I am today, the acceptance of myself improved very quickly. I wasn’t concerned if other people didn’t change. My focus was on me and my life.

Thoughts are powerful

It takes a lot of self-awareness to realize what we can accomplish once we make up our minds. The main reason for an unhappy life is negative thoughts that control actions. That’s why you must sow positive thoughts that can change your life in a very short time.

What’s holding you back?

If you don’t know what’s broken, how can you fix it? To find out what’s holding you back, talk to a trusted friend or professional. We don’t have to limit ourselves to obstacles and excuses, thinking we can’t change our destiny.

This is what I have heard many times from people whose beliefs are questionable: “I was born into a poor family, therefore, my chances to succeed are limited.”

You might be poor now, but it doesn’t mean you have to be poor for the rest of your life. You might believe you don’t have the right skills, connections or talent; the great news is that you don’t need anything extra. You’re enough!

Everything else is available to you, you just have to show up.

I will leave you with this powerful quote: “Champions don’t show up to get everything they want; they show up to give everything they have.”

Show up today for a better tomorrow.
