qathet Regional District’s waste reduction education program, Let’s Talk Trash, has been awarded sponsorship funding from First Credit Union for zero-waste event equipment.

According to a media release from the regional district, First Credit Union funded three, locally fabricated zero-waste stations and two event tents to accompany the stations. These stations encourage event organizers and guests to separate their waste into the local recycling streams available in Powell River in addition to compost collection.

“Environmental sustainability is important to First Credit Union,” stated Caitlin Bryant, First Credit Union community relations specialist. “We are thrilled to contribute to zero-waste event equipment to help meet the demand for zero waste events in our busy community.”

According to the Let’s Talk Trash team, before COVID-19, requests for zero-waste resources were steadily increasing each year. These additional bins and tents will be greatly needed to accommodate future local waste diversion, according to the team.
