Touted as the best small aviation event on BC’s coast, Texada Annual Fly-In takes place Sunday, July 20, at the Texada Island Airport at Gillies Bay.
More than 70 aircraft from the Yukon, BC Interior, Washington State, including the Canadian Forces’ Buffalo, an RCMP “A” Star Helicopter and many other airplanes will be on exhibit.
The Fraser Blues precision flying team will perform their dynamic aviation formations above the airport during the all-day event. Several antique aircraft, homebuilt, sleek little RAVs, the iconic Beaver, and scores of other visiting aircraft are to attend.
In addition, a classic, custom and antique car show will be part of the day’s festivities, along with a pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch.
This is the eighth year of the event and it follows the three-day Texada Aero-Space Camp for youth aged 10 to 18. As part of the camp, Boeing scientist Theo Rosenfeld will give a presentation about the global aviation industry. An exciting new flight simulator, made from the fuselage of a Brazilian Embraer 120 joined to a handmade mockup of a DC 3 cockpit, will be available for training. The camp is the only one of its kind in western Canada.
