Powell River Educational Services Society (PRESS) was among grant recipients announced by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) on Tuesday, April 29.

A total of $254,950 in grants is going to support 32 projects across the province, including $10,000 to PRESS for qathet Canoe Route enhancement. Repairs will be made to three portage trails.

The latest recipients are part of the second grant intake for ORCBC's Outdoor Recreation Fund.

Massive interest from the first intake was reiterated this year when ORCBC received 202 applications totalling $1.65 million in funding requests, according to ORCBC.

"Proposed projects were ready to launch this year and provided a matching contribution through cash or in-kind support equal to or greater than the funding request," stated ORCBC. "Each application underwent a thorough eligibility review before being scored by three reviewers with extensive experience in the field. Reviewers emphasized the large number of high-quality applications worthy of funding, highlighting the strong dedication to BC outdoor recreation and the need for funding."
