qathet School District chairperson to step down

Dale Lawson passing the torch but staying on as trustee until next election

qathet School District (qRD) chairperson Dale Lawson announced at a board meeting on Wednesday, October 25, that she is stepping down from her position.

“Wednesday was the last public meeting of the board that I will have served as chairperson,” said Lawson. “Elections are annual, each November, and I’m not putting my name forward for chair this year.”

Lawson added that she has been working to prepare vice-chairperson Jaclyn Miller to move into the role and would be nominating her at the start of the next open meeting, when elections occur.

“I believe serving as vice-chair to learn the ropes is an important step toward becoming chair, and that a nomination extended from the chairperson to the vice chair is the most appropriate path forward,” said Lawson. “The board as a whole will decide whether or not to support the nomination. Regardless, I will continue as a trustee around the table for the balance of the term, until the next municipal election.”
