Radio frequency wave exposure concerns smart meter protestors

March and rally arranged for analogue lovers

Opting out of the BC Hydro smart meter initiative has been anything but smooth for analogue meter lovers in Powell River.

Paying increased monthly fees and enduring pestering through agents of the Crown corporation has done nothing to stem the deserting crowd who steadfastly hold onto research around harmful health effects of electromagnetic field radiation and refuse to cave in.

The smart meter initiative has inspired The Analogue Meter Lovers Network of Powell River, a group dedicated to restoring each citizen’s right to keep or have reinstalled a mechanical, non-radiating analogue meter for the purpose of tracking hydro usage, without having to pay extortive fees.

The group has organized a march and rally on Saturday, June 14, to demand a smart meter opt-out for all. The march leaves at noon from the BC Hydro office at 7226 Duncan Street, and ends at MLA Nicholas Simons’ office, 4675 Marine Avenue. At that location there will be a rally. In the evening, a film screening of Take Back Your Power by Josh del Sol, will take place at 7 pm at the Blue Mountain Estates clubhouse, 7575 Duncan.

In a press release, the group describes the documentary as having “compelling insight from insiders, government representatives, whistle-blowers, lawyers, doctors and environmentalists.” The filmmaker “investigates the claimed benefits and the emerging risks of this ubiquitous ‘smart’ grid program.”

Participation in the day’s events is free and everyone is welcome.
