Releases enrolment summary
At its October 17 meeting, School District 47 announced year-to-year enrolment numbers that show an increase in full-time equivalent (FTE) funded students, which indicates a stable level of enrolment for the district, according the school board. FTE is a formula the provincial government uses to allocate per-student funding.

Throughout the district, the FTE student population increased six per cent between September 2016 and September 2017, from 1926 students to 2048. More than half of the increase is due to dual-credit programs.

Brooks Secondary School’s FTE student population is up five per cent from 683 in 2016/2017 to 718 this year.

Announces international student results
School District 47 released a report to the school board at the October 17 meeting on International Student Program activities at Brooks Secondary School. International students from China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Japan and Korea, numbering 69 in total, came to Powell River for summer programs in 2017, including English language learning, recreation and cultural activities. This month, 68 international students started school at Brooks. The school year began with a three-day orientation at the high school, in the community and at the Outdoor Learning Centre.
