Powell River Sea Fair Committee is looking for Miss Sea Fair, both for this year and from 50 years ago.
To celebrate its 50th year, Sea Fair organizers are wishing to contact Sandra German. German was the first Miss Sea Fair in 1963. German will have been between the ages of 16 and 21 as she headed the parade through Powell River streets. “We are also looking for other Miss Sea Fairs of the past who would be interested in being in the parade or at least as part of the opening ceremonies,” said Carol Hamilton, one of the volunteers organizing the event.
The position is open for this year’s Miss Sea Fair too. Hamilton encourages applications from young women between 16 and 21 years old, and asks that they write a letter to the Sea Fair Committee, 6870 Jasper Street, Powell River, V8A 1N3 or contact Hamilton directly at 604.485.7480. Sea Fair would not be complete without vendors. Now is the time for vendors to apply to participate in the festival and they can register by contacting volunteer Darlene Rekve at 604.414.7178 or by email [email protected]. Anyone interested in participating in the Sea Fair parade can go online to www.powellriverseafair.ca to fill out an application form, or pick up a form from Tourism Powell River or Your Dollar Store with More.
As with every year, there will be a business decorating contest. This is where businesses decorate their interiors and windows in the theme of this year’s Sea Fair. “Down through the ages, or pick a decade,” suggested business decorating committee chair Loretta Askgaard, which seems to be fitting for this “Blast from the Past” celebration of 50 years.
