Self-guided tour offers delights

Organizers of the Powell River Spring Garden Tour have lined up an interesting array of gardens for the 15th annual event.

There are 11 gardens on the tour, from a newly renovated garden in historic Townsite to the garden at Club Bon Accueil which features a bird-house theme and is designed with seniors in mind with raised flower beds for easy access.

Another garden in Cranberry shows off a wide range of woodland plants, with walking paths winding between large rhododendrons and tall evergreens.

Lunch is available at Diana Wood’s garden on Westview Avenue. Live music will be provided as well as a selection of homemade lunch items served up by the garden tour committee.

Wood’s garden contains many delights and hidden surprises, a private sanctuary where horticultural artistry inspires, as well as the alternate universe of the bonsai collection.

All proceeds from this year’s tour will go toward creating a permanent, public botanical garden.

The event takes place between 9 am and 5 pm on Sunday, May 22. Tickets, which contain maps for the self-guided tour, are available at Mother Nature, Springtime Garden Centre and Breakwater Books and Coffee.
