Seniors have their say

Commissioner for new federal riding to host afternoon session
Seniors have their say

Shirley McLoughlin, Liberal Seniors commissioner for Vancouver Island North federal riding, is inviting seniors to a town hall meeting to have their say on the issues that affect a balanced lifestyle.

The meeting, a non-partisan event, will be held from 2 to 3:30 pm on Tuesday, June 10, at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre, 6792 Cranberry Street and is open to all seniors and those who work with seniors.

A past Comox councillor, provincial and federal Liberal candidate and the first female leader of any provincial Liberal party in Canada, McLoughlin is bringing her knowledge of how politics works and how to get things done at all levels of government. She is eager to hear directly from seniors what the current issues are that affect them the most.

“All across Canada,” she said, “seniors are mobilizing to help develop policy for government. Don’t you think you are the real expert on your lifestyle and what affects it?” She added that seniors have an enormous wealth of experience and wisdom that is often not acknowledged.

The Liberal Party of Canada is sponsoring the meeting, which will be facilitated by riding vice-president Peter Schwartzhoff. “We value your views and together we can develop policy that will be presented to all levels of government for action,” he said.

Schwartzhoff explained that ideas will be recorded and feedback is guaranteed.

“Bring your concerns and possible solutions. The more voices heard the stronger the message.”

Admission is free and tea will be served.
