Shorncliffe collecting donations for Ukraine relief

It all began with a win at regular Monday afternoon Bingo at Shorncliffe Care Home. I chose a scratch and win card from the prize basket and, after my thumb had done it’s job, I realized that I had won the princely sum of $1.

It all began with a win at regular Monday afternoon Bingo at Shorncliffe Care Home. I chose a scratch and win card from the prize basket and, after my thumb had done it’s job, I realized that I had won the princely sum of $1. “What am I going to do with that?” I thought with disappointment. But then I had another idea! Having watched the coverage of all the troubles in Ukraine in the last month, I thought, “Maybe we could grow this little dollar into a sizeable chunk of money we could donate to the Red Cross for their humanitarian work in Ukraine.”

When I mentioned it to the staff and other residents at Shorncliffe, they all supported the idea. So now we are setting up a donation container on the desk at the front entrance to Shorncliffe Care Home, 5847 Medusa St. in Sechelt and we are inviting residents, staff, volunteers, and all the family and friends who come to visit (plus people who make deliveries here or just anyone who wants to help out) to add their contributions and watch our little dollar grow into a significant amount we can send to the Canadian Red Cross so they can continue the good work they are doing in war ravaged Ukraine. Please mention this to all your friends and encourage them to support us. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for supporting our fundraiser for Ukraine. To make a donation, please come to the desk by the front door where you will find our donation box, or speak with any of the Therapeutic Recreation staff.
