Six more weeks of winter predicted for BC and qathet region

Above seasonal temperature and precipitation from February to April

Environment and Climate Change Canada predicts February to April will see above normal temperatures and precipitation in BC and across Canada.

Friday, February 2, the temperature forecast for the Northern Sunshine Coast is around 10 degrees Celsius with periods of rain and cloud. Saturday to Tuesday will see sunshine in the daytime, with a high of 7 degrees, and a low of zero in the evening. Weatherhood's top five ranking today puts the qathet region at the top spot for wettest at 10.8 millimetres of rain, and Gibsons on the lower coast at second, with 4.4 millimetres of precipitation today. 

Today's hot spot in Canada today is 16.2 degrees, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and today’s cold spot is minus 39.1 degrees in Margaret Lake, Yukon.

Violet the marmot, who lives at the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Centre, located on Mount Washington, made her prediction earlier today.

Executive director for the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Centre, Adam Taylor told the Peak that: “Violet predicted more winter, which we gather bucks the consensus of her eastern marmot-kin.”
