Duplicate bridge club honours members

Another season of cards at Powell River Duplicate Bridge Club drew to a close with the awarding of trophies for 2013 winners.

During the year, five games with over 70 per cent were recorded. The biggest game of the year was a 75 per cent game posted by Tony Thickett and Alice Courte.

Trophy winners were:

  • Gail Fennell for the most masterpoints throughout the year, earning over 71.
  • For the second year in a row, winners of the Santokh Sian Seniors’ trophy were Kari Kuntsi and Janna Packard.
  • Mixed pairs: Terry Stokes and Jean Brach.
  • The Joneson Cup District Charity: Rose Andrews and Betty Bonsor.
  • Ladies’ pairs: Fennell and Packard.
  • Men’s pairs: Dave Harper and Dennis Bremner.
  • In April the Helen Shields Rookie-Master game was held. This is a national event. John Silver and Jean Brach won locally, provincially and nationally.
  • Whitney Memorial Trophy: Kuntsi and Packard.
  • Two-session Open Pairs event: Kuntsi and Thickett.
  • For the second year in a row, the winning Team of Four was Fennell, Harper, Scott Glaspey and Stokes.
  • Attendance award: Andrews.
  • Rookie of the Year: Sherry Hatch.
  • Ladies’ Marathon: Fennell.
  • Men’s Marathon: Pete Black.

This year, the Les Bakan Powell River Memorial tournament will be held on September 19 to 21.
