Two Powell River organizations have received community grants from BC Hydro.

Powell River Salmon Foundation received a $2,000 grant toward its educational and outreach program, which includes educating more than 400 school children, with a focus on environmental stewardship.

Timberlane Barracks Sponsor Committee received a $1,000 grant to assist with building upgrades; the grant will be directed toward energy efficient lighting upgrades. The organization maintains six barracks used by air, sea and army cadets.

Funds are being provided through the electric utility’s community grant program, according to a media release from BC Hydro. The program helps organizations committed to making a difference in their communities with projects focused on building the workforce of tomorrow, safety education and developing smart energy ideas, according to the release.

The next open call for community grants begins on February 1, 2021. For more information, go to bchydro.com/grants.
