A children’s summer program called Just for the Fun of It is the first beneficiary of a brand new van for inclusion Powell River.

It was turned over to Lynn Roberts, director of adult services, and driven back by David Morris, director of employment services, advocacy and innovations, following a conference in Vancouver recently.

The 12-passenger vehicle will be added to inclusion Powell River’s fleet and primarily will be used for providing services to children including the summer sessions through Family Support Services program.

There are six spaces and tie downs for passengers that use wheelchairs plus six seats for ambulatory passengers in the new bus.

“We’re very excited to receive this vehicle,” said executive director Lilla Tipton, “as it will make it possible for all five children who attend the program and use wheelchairs for their mobility to participate with the other children in trips to the beach and other outings.”

Variety - The Children’s Charity of BC contributed 50 per cent of the cost of the $90,000 specialized vehicle that meets all safety requirements of the Department of Transportation. Fundraising over the next year by inclusion Powell River will be required to cover its share of cost.

“Donations and contributions to this fund are welcome,” said Tipton. For more information, readers can contact her at 604.485.6411 extension 227 or [email protected].
