Salvation Army Powell River is seeking volunteers for its annual Christmas kettle drive.

Because many volunteers are unable to contribute this season for safety reasons, the organization is desperately looking for people to help staff the donation kettles at Walmart, FreshCo, Quality Foods and the Town Centre Mall liquor store, according to a media release from Salvation Army Powell River.

Salvation Army officers majors Glen and Rosanne Fraser stated that all kettle donations stay local to support Powell River and area Salvation Army programs such as toy and food hampers, hot meals, clothing and Christmas assistance, along with everything the Salvation Army does 52 weeks a year.

“Our Christmas campaign is our biggest drive throughout the year, so having enough volunteers is crucial for what we do here,” stated Glen.

The campaign runs from November 16 to December 24. To reduce contact, donations can be sent by mail or dropped off through the mail slot at 4500 Joyce Avenue, or at the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 1-7030 Alberni Street.

“Many of our volunteers are seniors and they are stepping back to be on the safe side during this pandemic,” stated Glen. “We fully support those decisions and anyone else’s who needs to be cautious this year.”

Glen said anyone who can spare a few hours to volunteer for a kettle shift, the Salvation Army asks that they call 604.485.6067, or book their own shift online at salvationarmypr.ca/kettles.
