To say there is a chance of rain for the rest of today (Friday, December 29) and tomorrow (Saturday, December 30) is an understatement. According to the Weatherhood weather monitoring mechanism installed at the Peak, which supplies direct weather updates to prpeak.com, those chances remain at 99 per cent for both days.

Fear not, sunny skies with a bit of cloud are in the forecast for New Year's Eve (Sunday, December 31) during the day and New Year's Day (Monday, January 1). So go ahead and make some outdoor plans for celebrating the new year. How about a visit to a local beach, or the trails at Inland Lake, Duck Lake or Scout Mountain?

For now, our weather station at our office on Marine Avenue in Powell River indicates that it is nine degrees Celsius at 2 pm today, which is also the high for the day. Tomorrow's high is expected to reach 10 degrees.

The Weatherhood device at the Peak was installed by a crew in the spring of 2023, one of 40 or so devices that have been installed so far in BC. The network went live in the summer through Glacier Media, parent company of the Peak. The first phase will result in about 60 of these devices being installed throughout the province.

Readers can access updates at prpeak.com/weather for qathet region forecasts, and for other areas around the province.
