Airport art and culture program open to submissions

People places and environment theme of this years exhibition

Comox Valley Airport Commission and Comox Valley Community Arts Council are seeking submissions for the 2012 art and culture program at Comox Valley Airport. This year’s exhibition will run from the fall of 2012 to spring of 2013 and is open to submissions from Powell River area artists.

In this call for submissions, the airport is seeking two- and three-dimensional art pieces that are representative of the unique people, places and environment of the northern Vancouver Island area. Art submissions may be in the form of paintings, original prints, photography, mixed media, textiles and/or sculpture.

The airport has the unique perspective of providing the first point of entry for many northern Vancouver Island and Powell River tourists. Part of the airport’s responsibility is to help form passengers’ first perceptions of the Comox Valley and its catchment area. This provides an ideal opportunity for the airport to host an annual art exhibition featuring the work of local artists.

Catchment area boundaries include Parksville, Port Alberni and Ucluelet in the south; the Pacific Ocean to the west; Powell River, Texada, Denman, Hornby, Quadra and Cortes islands, Alert Bay and Sointula to the east; and the Pacific Ocean to the north.

Interested readers can download submission guidelines and find more information online or by calling 1.250.890.0829. Entries must be received by August 31, 2012.
