An evening of aboriginal comedy awaits

Funds support 2011 TlaAmin Cheeclem Chichiya canoe journey

Fresh from their appearance on CTV’s First Story, first nation comedians Brian Majore of Vancouver and Tla’Amin (Sliammon) First Nation’s Cliff Paul have embarked on a tour of the province. With special guests Donovan Patrick Mahoney and Chris Gaskin, this all-first nation stand-up comedy tour is a first-of-its-kind in British Columbia.

First nation stand-up comedy is an emerging art form, and Majore and Paul, who form the Rez Jesters, are at the forefront. “Native people love to laugh and we love making them laugh,” said Majore. “So if you love to laugh, come on out to the show.”

The tour kicked off with a sold-out show at the Wise Hall in Vancouver and three other shows on Vancouver Island ensued, including another packed house in Victoria.

The Rez Jesters will be performing in Powell River at 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 18 at Rodmay Heritage Hotel. Tickets are $20 in advance available at the Tla’Amin band office, or $25 at the door. Proceeds of this show will support the Tla’Amin Cheeclem Chichiya Canoe Journey 2011.
