Malaspina Art Society will host an exhibition of local artist Janet Blair’s work throughout October. Blair’s murals can be seen painted on buildings along Marine and Willingdon avenues, which she worked on together with several other artists.

Blair began studying art at École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, then switched to Concordia University’s bachelor of fine arts program where she majored in painting and sculpture. Since moving to Powell River in 1997 she said she has never looked back.

Included in her exhibit will be colourful images of salmon and their underwater world, various gardens, a bounty of fruit, self portraits, her cat Sammy and her recent nostalgic paintings of lunch counters and cocktail bars.

Works will be on display from October 2 to November 5 in the foyer of Vancouver Island University. An opening reception will take place from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, October 3, during which everyone is welcome to attend and meet Blair.
