Indie chart topper Texture & Light will headline an electronic music event on Saturday, January 25, at the newly renovated Studio 56 in Powell River’s Townsite.
Its set will feature visual design and live video mixing by Claudia Medina of EnMedia. Together with Vancouver electronic artists Joseph Martin and the Hobbyist, the evening should be a feast for audience members.
Texture & Light is a five-piece electronic dream rock band based in Powell River. Its sound combines elements of indie rock, deep house and industrial music with a firm eye on the dance floor. Its debut album The Hard Problem of Consciousness was released in November 2013 and the single “A Quiet Place” was in the top three of CBC Radio 3’s indie chart for seven weeks. More information about Texture & Light is available on the band’s website.
Martin is the man behind the East Van Digital record label and live A/V act Fresh Baked DJs. He has been dropping tunes since 1998 and has been a Shambhala resident DJ since 2004. He has played many a memorable set in the legendary Fractal Forest. His productions and remixes are supported by DJs around the globe. Martin knows how to run a dance floor.
The Hobbyist’s Live PA sets are a sight to see with a glut of gear: up to four synthesizers, three drum machines, Kaoss pads, guitar, and a laptop that is run through a 16-channel mixing board to conduct each machine into deftly orchestrated layers of sound. The Hobbyist stays away from recycled samples or prescribed beats that fit into set genres. His music delights the mind with psychedelic soundscapes while keeping the rhythmic ebbs, flows and pulses of dance music.
Last year the Aurora Festival lit up Townsite. Proceeds from the Texture & Light concert will go toward the 2014 Aurora Festival, an event which opens historic spaces for artistic expression and features an artist lounge, disco, live audio visual performances at the Patricia Theatre, a beer garden and barbeque. More information about the Aurora Festival is available online. Each evening features an interactive projection mapping and 3D laser installation.
Tickets for the Texture & Light event at 7:30 pm Saturday, January 25, at Studio 56, cost $15 available at River City Coffee, Roxy Records, Rockit Music and Nancy’s Bakery. Tickets are also available at the door for $20. The event is open to audience members 19 years and older.
