A new book written about the ongoing transformation of humanity will be launched on Thursday, December 8 at Breakwater Books and Coffee.
Decoding Your Destiny: Keys to humanity’s spiritual transformation has been 30 years in the making, said author Tanis Helliwell, who lives in the Powell River area. She wrote a first draft of the book in 1988. She didn’t publish it and didn’t return to the material until six years ago when she began work on what is now the finished product. In the meantime she wrote four other books, including Take Your Soul to Work.
Helliwell said the version she is publishing now is far more down-to-earth and practical than the version she wrote in 1988. She said this change reflects changes in her own life and her approach to her beliefs.
The book itself is something of an “encyclopedia of what we need for the 21st century,” said Helliwell. The book looks at personal evolution but primarily at humanity’s evolution as a whole and its upcoming transformation.
What are we here for? Where are we going as a species? These are questions Helliwell tackles as she looks at the rise and fall of civilizations, human relationships with nature and cycles in the history of humanity. She sees the ultimate goal as creating a more beautiful, sustainable world where humans work with natural and spiritual laws for positive change.
The book takes a grounded approach to a grandiose topic by laying out much of the information in diagrams and charts and providing exercises to help readers understand Helliwell’s theory of humanity’s evolution and how it can provide a more positive picture of the state of the world.
“The more that we focus on the negative the more we feel depressed and hopeless and we lose our energy to do anything,” said Helliwell, “and the more we focus on the positive the more we are energized and we feel we can do something.”
Helliwell believes there are many people who are confused as to what is happening in the world right now. With the worldwide financial crisis, the collapse and potential collapse of nations and unions, with the seeming onslaught of natural disasters, the future of humanity seems highly unstable.
Her book explores the possibility that this unrest is really the beginning of a move into humanity’s next stage of evolution. In order for a new order to rise the old must collapse and Helliwell believes that no matter how negative the events leading up to it are, the entrance into a new stage of development is a positive thing.
“It clears up a lot of confusion for people who are saying ‘I have no idea what’s going on,’” said Helliwell. “Secondly, it gives them a lifeline toward optimism and it gives them reason to actually allow this old form to die that they’re holding on to rather than seeing it as a personal failure of theirs.”
Decoding Your Destiny will be available at Breakwater Books and Coffee and Helliwell will host a reading and book launch at the store from 6:30 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 8.
