Drawn to the beauty of the coast since she was a little girl, Anna May Bennett’s current works feature coastal landscapes painted in oils. Her show, “Pathways into the Middle Distance,” will hang on display throughout the month of June at Malaspina Art Society’s exhibition centre in the foyer of Vancouver Island University.
Bennett came to Powell River by way of Fife, Scotland where she studied under British contemporary artist Mark Weighton at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester, prior to completing a higher national diploma in public art at Telford College School of Creative Arts in Edinburgh.
“It is my pleasure to share my work with the people of Powell River, who have proven to be both encouraging and supportive of my pursuit of a career as a visual artist,” said Bennett. She credits the art society board for giving her the opportunity to display her work and for providing the arena in which “to connect, learn, share and give back to our wonderful community.”
“Pathways into the Middle Distance” opens with an artist’s reception at 7 pm on Thursday, June 4, and will showcase 12 original oil paintings completed over the past 20 months. The exhibition runs until June 30. Everyone is welcome to attend.
