A Canadian boutique hotel now offers a 'doggy bathroom' for your pampered pooch

Plus: A few other noteworthy dog-friendly stays across Canada

Not to sound crotchety but dogs have it so good these days.

Fido and Spot are living in the lap of luxury (literally with some of these purse-sized dogs) when it comes to what is available for pets in the hospitality industry. The latest addition to pet-friendly travel is the introduction of doggy bathrooms at the Kimpton Saint George hotel in Toronto.

Kimpton Hotels have been pet-friendly since its founding in 1981 but earlier this week the accommodation took its love of dogs a step further by introducing a dog litter box.

The doggy bathroom is designed by Montreal-based designer Alain Courchesne and is suitable for toy breeds. Even males who lift their leg can use the doggy bathroom thanks to its custom vertical pee pads that make up the high walls of the litter box.

The functionality of Courchesne's product extends beyond a luxurious hotel experience for your dog and can be used at home as a potty-training device for puppies or as a seasonal solution for small breeds who cannot withstand extreme weather.

The Kimpton Saint George partnered with the doggy bathroom because they already offer a series of pet-friendly amenities to their guests, their policy is "as long as they fit through the elevator your pet is welcome" at no additional fee. Pet also guests have access to plush pet-beds, treats, water bowls, courtesy bags and the option to join the hotel’s signature nightly social hour. However, there are also separate pet-free floors for guests with allergies.

Pet guests looking for a private ensuite will have the option to request the Doggy Bathroom at the time of booking or at check-in starting Sept. 6. They can also buy one through the hotel to take home.
