Culture of peace includes one-man show

Entertainment assured with risk-free event

At the age of 92, actor Antony Holland has begun a BC tour of his one-man show.

The International Peace-Poem Walkers’ Association has invited Holland to perform in Powell River on Friday, October 26, as part of its peace-related events for 2012. This will be event number three, with the other two being the annual Youth Peace-Poem Competition (YPPC) and August’s Lantern Ceremony in memory of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Holland’s show, One Man in His Time, mixes anecdotes from his military service in World War II with songs and poems of his wartime colleagues. The audience hears personal and unknown history retold with mischievous recollection and songs he and other soldiers sang during the war.

As founder of Studio 58 at Langara College in Vancouver, Holland has been a pioneer of theatre. He is the winner of numerous awards of excellence including three Jessie awards, and has been inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. His acting career spans 60 years and includes Tuesdays with Morrie.

“Antony has begun his BC tour to rave reviews,” said Eva van Loon of the association. “We are sure you will not want to miss this occasion. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The event begins at 7 pm at Max Cameron Theatre. Anthologies from YPPC and other association items will be available. Tickets, at $20, “are risk-free as Mr. Holland, a highly skilled actor and seasoned performer, guarantees enjoyment or one’s money back,” added van Loon. Breakwater Books and Coffee will carry tickets and tickets will also be available at the door.
