Juno award winner brings brilliance subtlety and passion to stage
Duo Concertante opens academy concert series

This year, Powell River Academy of Music concert series features some of Canada’s finest musicians.

Academy alumni Marnie Reckenberg, soprano, and Daniel Chow, piano, as well as the popular Carols by Candelight are all part of the academy’s seven-concert series.

Opening the series is Juno award winner Duo Concertante. With performances characterized by brilliance, subtlety and passion, violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves have been hailed by accolades in the musical media.

Quotes of “impeccable technique,” “exceptional warmth and intimacy,” “uncanny perfection,” follow each performance.

Dahn and Steeves’ extraordinary teamwork has set them apart from more conventional violin/piano collaborations, with critics observing: “One doesn’t listen to a program of violin music here, but to real chamber music, as it should be,” La Scena Musicale; and “Duo Concertante makes a powerful case for thinking of violin/piano sonatas as duo music, rather than as music for a pianist and a violinist,” San Francisco Classical Voice.

Duo Concertante concert takes place at 7:30 pm on Sunday, September 25 at academy hall.

Tickets for Duo Concertante are available at $22. The seven-concert package is available for $105 (a saving of 26 per cent on purchasing individual concert tickets). All tickets can be purchased from the academy box office, 7280 Kemano Street or by calling 604.485.9633 and at the door. Students 18 and under are free with a student ticket voucher.

Readers wishing to obtain more information about the concert series can visit the academy's website, and Duo Concertante's website about the opening performance.
