During the month of January, artist Louise Gloslee’s lively group of oil paintings and stained glass work, put together into a show called Elements, will be on display at Malaspina Art Society’s exhibition space in the foyer of Vancouver Island University.
Toronto and then Hinton, Alberta, were home to Gloslee before she moved to Powell River in 1995. This was when she felt her creativity start to soar. She participated in a rich life-changing experience of painting with a select group of international art students, including local artist Ursula Medley, at the Fattoria Baccio School of Art in Tuscany. She has formal training in watercolour and a great appreciation for the rich colours of stained glass.
Gloslee calls herself an alla prima (wet-on-wet) artist who will go until the piece is done. It is colour, mood and feeling, with a mix of unruliness, that dictate her style. It is her hope that when people look at her work they will find a lively, playful attitude, and she believes that people do not have to be fully representational in their treatment of art.
Currently, she is painting contemporary pieces on a massive scale. Her work is Impressionistic, natural and to the point.
Everyone is welcome to take a look at her work and meet Gloslee at a reception, 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, January 9 at the university.
