Deadwax Collective seeks votes in radio contest
Fans to choose band number 20

Voting is heating up in a music competition sponsored by CFOX 99.3FM radio station in Vancouver. Looking for support in Seeds 2012 is The Deadwax Collective, a foursome made up of three musicians from Powell River.

Touring the province with its debut self-titled album, Deadwax is making a stir in the rock industry. Its fist-pumping, foot-stomping, fast-driving music can be heard at TC’s Pub on Saturday, June 30. Before the concert, though, fans are asked to help the band become  the fans’ choice number 20 in this year’s competition. Voting is open until 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 10, with the winner announced the following day.

Joshua Fulford brings precise no nonsense guitar riffs, joined by Jason Dickie’s subtly complimenting smooth bass tones, kept on beat by Jeff Woods’ hard-hitting yet laid back drumming, or so the band’s press release describes the three Powell Riverites. Adding vocals is Lower Mainland’s Ray Boulay, who explores his vocal extremes from serenity to screaming. Combined, the four-piece ensemble has created a fresh, forward and dynamic album.

The first 19 bands have already been decided and announced by industry judges. When the 20th band joins the group, each will perform live in front of judges over a period of eight days. Three winners will be chosen based on these live performances. The winners receive tour, equipment and production support throughout the year.

To sample the music of Deadwax, interested readers can visit the band's website. To vote readers need to visit the radio station's site.

Tickets for the June 30 show are $10 and are available at Powell River Town Centre Hotel lobby.
