Ursula Medley and Maggie Poole will show their artwork during the month of October at Malaspina Art Society’s exhibition space in the foyer of Vancouver Island University.
Medley and Poole have collaborated for the past eight years, supporting each other’s art practice. In the winter they work in the studio and in the summer they paint en plein air.
The starting point for this show began with conventional still life painting. While snorkelling in Belize, Medley was inspired to submerge the conventional rendering of still life into an underwater setting. Poole became fascinated with the process of floating objects out of the picture plane and the basis of this outstanding show was born.
Floating worlds is their sixth exhibition of work in collaboration and shows how two artists can work together and maintain their own vision while complementing one another’s work.
An opening reception will mark the first day of their exhibit, from 7 to 9 pm Thursday, October 2. Their art will be on display until Tuesday, November 4.
