Dracula arrives on stage at Evergreen Theatre
Garlic teeth and laughter in latest panto

What do garlic, teeth and laughter have in common? Theatre Now!’s latest production Dracula The Panto.

Once again Theatre Now! brings English pantomime to life for Powell River audiences. The company’s previous pantomime performances have all had fairy-tale themes. This year a real gem was discovered: Dracula The Panto, by Jim Sperinck.

It may be thought this would be too dark a topic for a comedy, but it is definitely not. Yes there are vampires, zombies and a werewolf to be seen, but they will not frighten the audience. In fact, people should be prepared for lots of jokes, puns, singing, dancing and laughing. Plus, Dracula is particularly fond of being booed at.

Audiences will be familiar with most of the characters. The good: Fairy Queen Garlic played by Noemi Mazurek; the bad: Dracula played by Kevin Cook; and the ugly: Imtiaz Taj as Dame Rosie Glow—not that she considers herself ugly. The audience can be the judge.

This action-packed play, directed by Brian Liddle, has a love story. After all, what would a pantomime be without one of those? There are many very funny characters, including a couple of kooky cooks played by Tina Thompson and Nicole Narbonne, and a werewolf butler played by Tricia Andrews. And the happy ending? Does Dracula finally meet his match? Does true love prevail?

The answers to the above questions will be found at 7 pm on Friday, December 7, at 7 pm on Saturday, December 8 and at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 9 at Evergreen Theatre at Powell River Recreation Complex. Admission is by donation.

With Shelley Thomson as music director and Mariah Sheridan-Runions as choreographer, hearts will dance and feet will sing.

This production is dedicated to the memory of two of our members who passed away this year, Martin Rossander and Hilary Bruhn. Committed to theatre, with friendly and creative personalities Rossander and Bruhn continue to be an inspiration to Theatre Now! and community members.

This is a great opportunity for a family outing, which will appeal to the child in everyone.
