ICET funds facility upgrades at Powell River Academy of Music

As the board of directors for Powell River Academy of Music (PRAM) convened at their final meeting of the summer before International Choral Kathaumixw recently, they received some exciting news. A $10,000 grant from Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET) would soon be heading their way.

The funds, contributed through ICET’s Economic Infrastructure Program, have been allocated for the purchase of new theatrical lighting fixtures, dimmer controller, scrim, and the construction of a backstage green room for performers at James Hall.

“We are very excited about the support from the ICET grant,” said Carrie Lanigan, PRAM administrator. “Plans are in the works and we will be meeting in September with the facility committee to further discuss the project. We have a basic outline of ideas and plan to upgrade equipment and enhance space in the James Hall green room.”

Since 2007, ICET has contributed $47 million to over 100 economic stimulus projects in communities across Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

“A vibrant arts and cultural community is key to improving quality of life, and that helps to attract entrepreneurs looking to settle in Powell River,” said Phil Kent, ICET chair, in a written statement. “Exposure to arts and culture provide an environment where creativity is developed, and that is essential in the Vancouver Island and Coast region’s new economy.”
