The Christmas surprise

By Ebyni Bond, grade nine
École Côte du Soleil

I woke up the night of Christmas Eve to the sweet glow of the stars above;

I began to feel the warm Christmas love.

A feeling like no other, a feeling of joy.

Hoping that under the decorated tree would lie a very special toy.

I looked out my window and felt the cool winter breeze hug my face.

Sat there for a while; the ocean view and twinkling lights made it my very favourite place.

The air was white, suffused with soft falling snow

That settled quietly on the cold ground below.

My sister burst in with a scream and a smile,

A smile so big I had not seen in a while,

« He’s here, he’s here! »

Cried my sister with cheer.

To avoid waking our parents, we tippy-toed down the stairs,

And sat down on the floor to say our prayers.

We prayed for a puppy,

A soft one, white and fluffy.

All of a sudden the sound of bells rang in my ear

Telling me that Santa Claus was soon to be here.

Up the stairs, we bolted with glee

For down from the chimney he was soon to be.

My sister ran into her room and I into mine,

In hopes that Santa would be done all the houses in time.

The morning fast came, as in a wink,

Under the tree lay a box, all covered in pink.

Just then we heard the faintest little bark

And suddenly felt that special Christmas spark.

Chris and the spider

Kaden Bullock, grade nine
Assumption School

Chris woke up on Christmas morning to see nothing under his tree. He acted as if nothing happened. As he walked over to his kitchen Chris noticed a spider on the wall, it looked as if it was watching his every move. Chris grabbed some paper towel and with one quick move he squashed the spider. Little did he know he just killed the Santa Clause of spiders.

Chris then walked to his cupboard to grab some cereal. When he poured the cereal and the milk he heard something strange inside his head. It was a light pounding sound. He went to his bathroom and looked in his mirror. As he looked himself in the eyes all the colours he could see started to become deeper and deeper and everything went black as if he had been knocked out.

He woke up to spiders the size of cows walking around. Soon he saw a giant finger come down and kill one of the spiders. He looked up and saw another finger coming down towards him. Chris realized what it would be like to be minding your own business then being killed for no reason .He screamed and said “I’m so sorry for killing that spider please don’t kill me!!”

Chris then woke up and got out of bed and saw all of his presents under his tree. And in the corner of the room was a spider but Chris left that one alone.
