Steinway artist and critically acclaimed pianist Lorraine Min has dazzled international audiences with her poetic artistry and brilliant virtuosity. She is returning to offer Powell River another stunning performance on Thursday, November 20, in James Hall at Powell River Academy of Music as part of the Academy Concert Series.
The evening will begin with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Fantasy in D Minor which was left unfinished at his death, yet still remains a favourite piece with audiences everywhere. Another crowd favourite is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata, one of his greatest and most technically challenging piano sonatas.
A dynamic chamber musician, Min has performed in prestigious North American venues including the Ravinia and Tanglewood festivals, in Europe, Asia, Australia, and notably in Perth’s Western Australia Symphony Orchestra’s Amberley Mozart Day concerts where she was a featured guest artist. She can regularly be heard on CBC radio.
Min delighted audience members with her 2011 Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific performance of Franz Schubert’s Trout Quintet. She has also graced the Powell River stage as a popular adjudicator for Powell River Festival of the Performing Arts.
Born in Victoria and raised in Vancouver, Min studied on full scholarship at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and earned her bachelor degree, Pi Kappa Lambda. On scholarships and numerous grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Min received her master and doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School.
