Popular film contest returns for another year

Participants have 24 hours to create masterpiece

It’s official—the 24-Hour Film Contest is returning for its second year.

“Last year was so much fun, and so enthusiastically supported,” said Jan Padgett, Powell River Film Festival director, “the festival is once again offering the contest to the community.”

Participants have from 10 am on Saturday, January 14 to 10 am on Sunday, January 15 to make their film after registering from 9:30 to 10:30 am at River City Coffee on the first day. There is a $10 registration fee, of which 50 per cent will become the winner’s prize, supplemented with tickets to film festival screenings.

“At registration, participants will be given a token, which must appear in the film, as well as helpful hints for filmmaking,” said Padgett. “The film has to be suitable for family screening and can be up to three minutes in length. You can go it alone or make it a team effort.”

Films will be judged by a panel of experts and winners will receive tickets to the festival. A selection of the finest submissions will be screened at 1 pm on Sunday, February 19 at Patricia Theatre after screening of the Adventures in Film Camp student films completed during their time at the camp. As there is an audience choice cash prize, Padgett hopes many people attend and cheer on their favourite filmmaker.
