Pre-eminent pianist performs

One of Canada’s exceptional pianists will perform on the Powell River Academy of Music’s Steinway concert grand Thursday, January 17.

Ang Li is ranked among the top 30 pianists in the world. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York, along with major concert halls in Washington DC, Ottawa, the Netherlands, China and others.

Li has toured five continents and has received rave reviews and genuine love from her audience. Hailed as “a most accomplished pianist” and “a revelation” by international press, Li made her first public appearance at Beijing Concert Hall at the age of six. At age 13, she made her orchestral debut with The Little Orchestra Society of New York.

In 2007, Li was invited by the China National Center for the Performing Arts to replace its publicized pianist in the performance of the Ravel Piano Concerto in G major with the China National Symphony Orchestra. She was immediately re-engaged to perform at that venue with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra in 2008. Since then she has performed with orchestras in Montreal, Fort Worth, Staten Island, Hong Kong and others.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm at Academy Hall. Readers can purchase tickets for $22 online, at the Academy box office, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, 7280 Kemano Street, by calling 604.485.9633 or at the door 30 minutes before the concert. Students 18 and under are admitted free with a student voucher.
