Herbaland gummy vitamins and supplements that were sold in bulk are being recalled for inadequate labelling and may pose serious health risks.

Health Canada has issued a recall notice due to inadequate labelling of all Herbaland gummy vitamins and supplements sold in bulk.

The recalled product list includes gummies for hair, skin and nail health, multivitamins as well as sleep and prenatal gummies, which were sold in bulk across Canada and had “little to none of the required labelling,” according to the recall notice issued last Friday.

This meant consumers did not have dosing instructions, ingredients and safety warnings, said Health Canada.

A total of 61 products, which were sold at "various bulk, low- or zero-waste refillery stores in Canada," were affected by the recall.

Herbaland Naturals Inc. is based in Richmond.

Health Canada is warning of health risks posed by the recalled products when meeting or exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of vitamins and minerals.

Potential consequences include minor issues such as upset stomach, nausea and vomiting, or serious health concerns including drug interactions, severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis and birth defects in unborn children.

Those most vulnerable to high doses of vitamins and minerals are children, who are small in size and have developing bodies, and pregnant people, who may experience negative effects on the fetus due to high doses of vitamin A, vitamin D or folic acid during pregnancy.

“The gummies could be confused for candy, which heightens the chance of taking too many,” read the recall notice.

What you should do

  • Don’t use the products and keep them out of the reach of children.
  • You should follow municipal or regional guidelines on how to dispose of chemicals and other hazardous waste, or return the product to your local pharmacy for proper disposal
  • If you have used any of the products and have health concerns, consult a healthcare professional
