Singer brings message of kindness

Canadian Christian singer-songwriter Steve Bell is coming to Max Cameron Theatre at Brooks Secondary School on Friday, October 21 to promote his new album kin-dness.

The Winnipeg-based musician has been recording and playing live for over 20 years and has released 16 albums to high acclaim of critics and fans. Bell has twice been awarded a Juno in gospel and contemporary Christian categories and has played music throughout the world.

Bell has been playing guitar ever since picking up the instrument when he was eight years old. He played during jam sessions at a medium-security prison in Alberta where his father worked as a chaplain. Bell played in a locally known folk trio in Winnipeg for 10 years before discovering his faith and going solo.

Kin-dness, released this past February, features new original songs alongside tunes from some of Bell’s favourite writers.

“A lot of the songs on the album have a general underlying quality of kinship,” said Bell in a press release. “Kin is the root of kind, so we’re focusing on that meaning, whether between us and creation and nature or between others. I don’t usually have a preconceived theme for an album, but when I look back I often see one there.”

Bell will perform at 7 pm. Tickets are $15 available at Westview Baptist Church, Evangel Pentecostal Church, Powell River Academy of Music, online at or by phone 1.800.854.3499.
