Many programs are offered through Powell River Brain Injury Society’s centre on Marine Avenue and one of them is an art program. A gallery of art from the Creative Expressions Brain Art Studio will be on display from May 10 to June 5 at Vancouver Island University.

The society has been offering support and services to adults with acquired brain injury since September 2003. It is funded by Powell River and District United Way and the BC Community Grant program.

The show will feature the work of several artists. They each have their own distinctive style. There will be displays of painting both in watercolour and acrylic, sketching using various mediums, metal sculpture and other types of art sculpture.

Participating artists include Ajay Morehouse, Josh Friesen, Melissa Tookey, Dewar Boutilier, Anastasia and John Cogswell, Jim Wilkins, Jeanette Francis, Rick Gration, Catherine Peterson, Donna Newell, Linda Amundsen, Debbie Dee and Sandra Haszard.

An opening reception celebrates the display, from 7 to 9 pm, on Thursday, May 10 in the university lobby.

Information about the society and on acquired brain injury can be found online. The centre is located at 201-4741 Marine Avenue and can be contacted at 604.485.6065. The centre is open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday each week.
