Tribute group nails greatest rock and roll band experience

A tribute band that recreates possibly the greatest rock and roll band of all time will be strutting its stuff in Powell River next week.

Led Zepagain replicates the ultimate Led Zeppelin experience, from the high energy electric classics to the beautiful acoustic works, from the soaring leads on the double-neck guitar to the brilliant keyboard passages and from the high, Robert Plant screams to the trademark pounding rhythms. The band has nailed such classic songs as Stairway to Heaven, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Black Dog, according to critics and fans alike.

In January 2004, Led Zepagain was paid the highest compliment ever when original band member Jimmy Page caught its show in Hollywood. He requested to meet band members in the dressing room and praised them on their accuracy. He said the experience is “as close as you’ll ever get to the real deal.”

Irishman David “Swan” Montgomery delivers an uncanny portrayal of Robert Plant. Recently, Roger Daltrey pulled Montgomery on stage for a duet of Help From My Friends. Daltrey commented on how much Montgomery looked like Plant.

Jim Wootten, nephew of the legendary guitarist Les Paul, fills the demanding role of John Paul Jones, masterfully covering bass, keyboards, mandolin, acoustic six- and 12-string guitars, as well as backing vocals.

Christian Nesmith, son of famous Monkees guitarist Michael Nesmith, stars in Page’s lead guitar role. Nesmith studied Page intently from the age of 13. He decided to focus on guitar after watching Page’s performance in the Zeppelin concert movie, The Song Remains the Same. An acute awareness of both the tone and style of Zeppelin and Page has greatly influenced and inspired Nesmith.

Having studied drums and percussion with Carmine Appice and Joe Porcaro, as well as at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jim Kersey brings his amazing feel for the great John “Bonzo” Bonham to Led Zepagain. The drummer leaves audiences shouting for more after every performance of Zeppelin’s epic drum solo Moby Dick.

Led Zepagain plays the Evergreen Theatre at Powell River Recreation Complex on Wednesday, October 10. Tickets are $32.50, plus facility fee and service charges, and are available at the complex box office or charge by phone at 604.485.2891. Doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
