Young musicians perform

Thirty-two young musicians performed for scholarships at the annual Powell River Academy of Music Scholarship Competition held recently.

The academy holds the annual scholarship competition in November for student pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists. Scholarship money is donated by patrons and teachers to assist students in their future studies.

The following students are congratulated for excellent performances:

Recipients of the Marjorie Henry scholarships (12 years and under) in piano are Hannah Schweitzer and Jayce Shelton. Recipients of the Lillian Dickson Memorial Scholarship (13 to 18 years) in piano are Josiah Schweitzer and Taiga Ball. Performers included Isabella Colasanto, Owen Jantz, Miranda MacBean, Willemijn Poelen, Annika Harry, Annika Krowitz, Zoe Crookshank, Sophia Milsom and Justin Johansen.

Recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hibberd Scholarship (12 years and under) for vocal performance is Caira Maguire. Recipient of the Don James Scholarship (13 to 18 years) for vocal performance is Sheena Slootweg-Langkjar. Performers included Georgia Murphy, Haedyn Drosdovech, Samantha Baron, Sarah Schweitzer, Breanne Werner, Georgia Murphy, Payton Bradley, Hannah Schweitzer, Tyannika Lam, Tyana Sacree and Elise Hocking.

Recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Derry Simpson Scholarship (12 years and under) for instrumental performance is Sydney Rose Brown. Recipient of the Carriere Scholarship (13 to 18 years) for instrumental performance is Lynne McDonald. Performers included Ella Vallance, Jing Zhong, Zoe Crookshank and Taya Gable.
