For any property owner or business that needs excavation and earthmoving services, Shaun Gloslee Excavating has the knowledge, experience and equipment to take care of the job.

“We’ve been part of a variety of projects that Powell River residents will recognize, like the north harbour boat launch and the airport runway expansions,” says Amanda Welp, Shaun’s spouse and office manager. “We built the new retaining wall at the north harbour’s boat launch, did the excavation for the Tim Hortons drive-through, and also A&W back when it was constructed, and recently excavated the old fuel tanks at the Shell gas station.

“We have been doing a lot of bigger commercial projects lately, but we started off doing small residential projects, and that’s still a big focus for us.”

Since beginning operations in 2008, Shaun Gloslee Excavating has helped countless people in the region with a wide range of projects. For homeowners, the company can do anything from drainage ditches and driveways to landscaping and retaining walls, and also locate, dig and place wells. The business also has experience with residential logging and lot clearing, digging or blasting for foundations, and building private roads.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work in forestry the last few years, building logging roads and helping improve access to the backcountry, but we haven’t stopped doing everything else,” explains Amanda. “Whether it’s building several kilometres of road, clearing a residential lot, running services or demolishing a concrete pad, each job is unique and presents its own challenges, and Shaun and our staff work hard to make sure things are done right the first time.”

New equipment

Shaun Gloslee Excavating has recently added equipment to its fleet.

“We have filled in a few holes in our equipment roster that make us even more flexible,” says Amanda. “For example, we just purchased a John Deere 60G excavator, which is a little bigger than a mini-excavator but can still fit in a backyard. Having the 60G lets us get into tighter spaces and do projects like retaining walls, drainage ditches, landscaping and driveways. And if it’s busy on another job, we can always use one of our two mini-excavators instead.”

The company has a one-ton dump truck and two regular dump trucks, as well as all sizes of excavators and other equipment, such as large compactors and a hydraulic hammer attachment for breaking concrete and rock. The mini-excavators, including the John Deere 60G, are also available to rent, as well as 45- and 60-foot manlifts and light plants. With the depth of its fleet, Shaun Gloslee Excavating is able to bring the right equipment to any project.

Shaun grew up in Powell River and worked for many years in the community doing construction and road building. The Gloslee name has been known in the industry for the last 40 years, and Shaun has been operating on his own for the past 30 years, including starting Shaun Gloslee Excavating 13 years ago.

“If it has to do with moving earth, clearing land or breaking things down, we can help,” says Amanda. “We can also help troubleshoot things like drainage problems or falling retaining walls. Whatever the job, just give us a call, and Shaun will come out to provide a consultation.”
