Restaurants and bars get a break on liquor licences

The provincial government announced Friday that they would be temporarily deferring renewal charges for licenses expiring between now and June 30 until Sept. 30.
The province stated that businesses that are able to pay the fees now should do so, “so those most directly impacted can benefit.”

Restaurants and bars facing financial hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic are getting a temporary break on liquor liquor licensing fees.

The provincial government announced Friday that they would be temporarily deferring renewal charges for licenses expiring between now and June 30 until Sept. 30. Retail liquor outlets, specialty wine stores and grocery stores that sell wine are not eligible for the deferral.

The province stated that businesses that are able to pay the fees now should do so, “so those most directly impacted can benefit.”

“As this is an evolving situation, government will review this temporary provision as the public health crisis progresses,” the Ministry of Attorney General said in a statement.

Eligible vendors whose licence expires in the given time period may ask for support by emailing [email protected]. For the latest medical updates on the COVID-19 crisis, go to www.bccdc.ca.
