Accident shuts down ferries

Friday morning sailings cancelled

UPDATED – BC Ferries has cancelled the first two round-trip sailings for Friday, December 9 after a fuel truck jackknifed on the ferry ramp at Little River and damaged the ramp’s railing.

Nobody was hurt in the incident and there was no fuel spilled “into the environment.” BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall said that they are not yet sure the extent of the damage but that as of Friday morning crew are inspecting the site and getting ready to replace damaged railings.

The fuel truck jackknifed while going to refill the Queen of Chilliwack. Marshall said that the cause of the accident is under investigation. The vessel did not sustain any damage in the incident.

The 2:30 pm sailing from Comox and the 4:45 pm sailing from Powell River will go ahead as scheduled.

As a result of the cancelled sailings the Peak’s Weekend Shopper will not be delivered until Saturday, December 10, so long as sailings resume.
