At the City of Powell River committee of the whole meeting on April 2, councillors voted to have staff draft an amendment to the city’s zoning bylaw to comply with requirements of the provincial government’s Bill 44, which was passed late last year to make allowances for greater housing density.

The committee also directed staff to draft an amendment to the city’s delegation bylaw that would designate authority to the director of planning services to approve development permits for up to four housing units where no zoning variances are required.
